WAITING FOR THULANI

the metric of thoughts and things

a silence crept over things

What is Suminagashi?

Suminagashi is an old Japanese marbling technique on water. Flowable ink is applied to the surface of the water with brushes. Non-repeatable patterns can be created in a mixture of chance and control. These are transferred to a suitable paper. Suminagashi is generally translated as ‘flowing ink’.
It was first mentioned in the early 12th century. Initially, this technique
was mainly used to decorate calligraphy or poetry scrolls. Sumi is the ink and nagashi means to let flow, wash away, let drift

I create the patterns on the paper in a mix of traditional and experimental suminagashi.

The act itself, in which the ink settles on the water and begins to float, involuntarily ties the observer to the present.

And then there is a silence, crept over things.
